Ingredients
  

  • 1 ½ cups unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup vegetable oil or melted butter
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon ground nutmeg optional
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9-inch round cake pan.
  • In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In a large bowl, beat eggs and sugar until light and fluffy. Add in vegetable oil (or melted butter), applesauce, and vanilla extract, mixing until smooth.
  • Gradually fold the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, stirring until just combined. Avoid overmixing.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared pan, smoothing the top with a spatula.
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Let the cake cool in the pan for 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Serve with a dusting of powdered sugar or a drizzle of caramel sauce.

Notes

Use unsweetened applesauce for the best texture and sweetness control.
Add chopped nuts or raisins for extra flavor and texture.
